07/30/2005: "A Trip to Get Fliers Ends in Tradgedy"
Kyle told me last night he wanted to take fliers out to the Purgatory for some big show tonight. The fliers are for the East Bricktown Music Festival - incidentally you can get tickets for the show on our store page. It's 2 days with over 50 bands including Gooding and Shiny Toy Guns - and of course us. But, I digress... So last night I got the flyer ready to go and emailed a link to Quik Print - which by the way is THE best copy place in town. They close pretty early on Saturday's though so that meant getting up at what other people consider to be a reasonable hour. Reasonable to me is like 2 or 3PM. But whatever...
So I drag my tired ass out of bed at 10:50 AM (considering that my clock is set 7 minutes fast it was more like 10:43 AM). I immediately call Quik Print to make sure they're making the fliers and to find out for sure how much time I have to get there and pick them up. Marcos answers and tells me he didn't get the email and that they close at 1PM. He also tells me he doesn't know how to put the fliers 4-up -- four to a page. I pull up the flier and make it 4-up and put it on my thumb drive since apparently QP's email is non-functional. Then I get ready and leave.

Some of you that live in OKC may know that there's an Enterprise Rent-a-Car right next door to the Quik Print on NW Expressway. But why is this relevant cF? Oh, you'll see. I'm about to turn left onto the side street next to Quik Print when I notice 2 cars driving pretty fast through the adjacent bank parking lot, heading toward the side street. I turn down the side street and these two ass holes pull right out in front of me without even looking. Then they whip it into the QP/Enterprise parking lot right in front of me. This is all fine - even though at this point I've muttered a few obscenities under my breath regarding their apparent lack of intelligence. I pull in right behind them and we all immediately come to a complete stop. This is a cramped up parking lot and somebody's trying to leave while our caravan is trying to enter. So the genius in front of me slams it in reverse and - this is the really kick ass part - does not even turn around and backs right the fuck into my van. The entire time this douche is backing up I'm holding down my horn. So apparently in addition to his astonishing lack of brainpower, he suffers from acute hearing loss.

At this point I'm pissed and take few seconds inside my car after pulling over into a parking place in order to count to ten - like 5 or 6 times. This guy walks over and looks at the dent in my bumper and says he's sorry - the car he was driving was - guess what? - a rental car! He asks me what I think the damage is worth and offers me 50 bucks. Yeah. OK. How about fuck no? He then says he'll give me a hundred and that's all he's got. He then says he'll be right back because he has to turn in the rental car. At this point I still need to get the show on the road with these damn fliers - it's like a few minutes after noon already. So I go in and drop of the files and we get the printing fired up - thw whole time I'm looking out the front of the store to make sure this guy isn't going to try to make a slick getaway. I mean it's not like the damage to my van is that bad - I got a pretty good dimple in my bumper and there's some shit bent up behind it. But this ass hole has got to pay.

I finally meet up with him again outside and he's still trying to give me some cash - but too damn little. He offers an explanation for his wreckless driving. He was trying to get the rental car in before noon. Oh! Well hell that makes all the difference dude! Shit! If only you'd said that in the first place! I tell him I'm going to need insurance info. I get the info along with his name and his number - he's being pretty nice at this point. Then I go in and get my fliers and go home.

The only good thing (so far) is that the guy actually has insurance. Kudos dude. At least I got the fliers.

I would like to make sure I don't live around him AND also would like to make sure that I don't get in behind him on the highway (being in front of him sounds like a pretty safe place!!)
